Gulch to Bullet Canyon is one of Utah's finest backpacking trips. Along the route you will
see Anasazi ruins consisting of cliff dwellings, granaries and rock art. The prehistoric
Anasazi culture occupied the canyon between 700 and 2000 years ago. Please take only
pictures and leave only footprints. |
Circle of Friends:
Kane
Gulch to Bullet Canyon is part of the "Circle of Friends"
program. Members of the "Circle of Friends"
have access to more specific information, explicit route information, GPS waypoints,
trailhead location and detailed maps. If you

"Circle of Friends"
General Information:
Kane Gulch to Bullet Canyon
contains many outstanding ruins and is normally done as a three day backpack. The route
can be done in two days by strong hikers or stretched out to four or more days by those
wanting to explore the canyon in detail. The ruins are accessible year round in good
weather.
A GPS is extremely useful in
verifying you are on the correct route and in locating specific ruins. Navigation for this
route is moderate. Kane Gulch to Bullet Canyon is rated 1A VI using the Canyon Rating
System.
Permit:
A BLM
Backcountry Permit is required to backpack Upper Grand Gulch. Please review the BLM
Backcountry Permit page for details on reserving and obtaining a permit.
Maps:
All the ruins I know of are
correctly noted on the maps, these ruins range from a few scattered remnants to
outstandingly well preserved archeological finds that will amaze you. I know of no other
maps available to the public that are as complete and detailed as the maps provided to
members of Climb-Utah.com.
Trailhead Information:
The Trailhead is accessible to all
vehicles in good weather.
Day Hike Information:
Most of
Upper Grand Gulch can be done is sections as a day hike.
