Professor
Creek is a natural waterpark located in a redrock desert. The canyon
offer opportunities for both hikers and technical canyoneers.
The area is off the
radar of the normal Moab tourist so finding a little seclusion is not difficult.
A beautiful stream flows through brilliant deep red canyon walls. This is a great
adventure that all fit adults and older children should enjoy. |

Professor
Creek
is part of the "Circle of Friends" program.
Members of the "Circle of Friends" have
access to more specific information, explicit route information, GPS waypoints, trailhead
location and detailed maps. If you would

"Circle of Friends"
General Information:
Professor Creek is a
technical canyoneering route that is suitable for beginners with competent
leadership. The scenery is dramatic. Professor Creek requires complete technical gear.
Professor Creek is rated 3A III using the Canyon
Rating System. The highlight of the route is the ability to cool
off in the clear, fresh water on a hot summer day. In normal
conditions this canyon requires a lot of wading, but no swimming.
Navigation
for this route is moderate. A GPS is useful. Good map reading
skills are essential. This canyon has a moderate flash flood danger.
Hiking Option:
For those
wishing to hike the route and avoid the technical aspect just follow the stream up river until stopped by
the waterfall. Navigation is easy and it's almost impossible to get
lost. The non-technical hiking option is rated 1A II using the Canyon Rating
System.
Trailhead Information:
The trailhead is located near the town of Moab along the Colorado River.
The Professor Creek Trailhead is normally accessible to all vehicles in normal
weather conditions.
There are numerous BLM campsites located along the Colorado River and in
nearby Onion Creek.
